Fire
Prevention |
The Staunton Fire Protection District is
dedicated to saving lives and educating the public. As important
as responding to emergencies, the Staunton Fire Protection
District strives to encourage behaviors and habits that prevent
accidents. Besides the topics listed to the right, the SFPD
provides public education by utilizing the following resources:

Weekly Newspaper Topics - The SFPD publishes
articles in two newspapers every week and currently has
over 350 articles available for print

Cable TV ads - Through an agreement
with a local cable company public education spots are
aired weekly

Public Speakers Available - The department
typically provides 15-20 speaking programs per year ranging
in topics from fire and safety issues pertaining to business',
educational facilities, and hospitals, to senior safety,
and fire safety for families

Public Education Sign - Located in front
of the fire station, fire prevention topics are changed
weekly

School Partnership Program - Representatives
from the department will provide education to students
in shop and/or home economics classes with topics ranging
from use of a fire extinguisher to cooking safety. The
school in turn then provides services such as construction
of the fire prevention sign located in front of the fire
department

Operation Prom Night - Once a year the
SFPD partners with other emergency medical services, such
has Staunton Area Ambulance and
Arch Air Medical Helicopter, to stage a mock drunk
driving accident involving teens from the local high school.

National
Fire Safety Council - For over
20 years the fire department partners with the National
Fire Safety Council, which raises funds and provides fire-prevention
handouts/education materials to children in pre-school
through sixth grade

Illinois
Fire Safety Alliance
- The Staunton Fire Protection District is a member of
the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, which is a statewide
organization that administers and supports public education.
