



Each year the volunteers of the Staunton Fire Protection District conduct several fundraising activities. The funds raised during these activities, as well as donations made by the SFPD volunteers, are used to purchase additional equipment, support volunteer firefighter recruitment and retainment programs, conduct public education and public relations programs, and make donations to area not-for-profit organizations. Outlined below is a review of the annual volunteer fundraising programs.
· Public Education Fundraising Drive – This annual fund drive raises money to purchase fire prevention materials for students in each of the local schools grades kindergarten through sixth grade. For more information about this program, contact Chief Rick Haase at 618-635-2139 ext. 22.· Burn Camp Barbecue – Each spring the volunteers conduct a barbecue at the fire station. All proceeds are used to sponsor a child to attend the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance burn camp. · Annual Fourth of July Celebration - For almost 70 years, the SFPD volunteers have been conducting an annual Fourth of July celebration. The celebration is conducted either the weekend immediately prior to or following the 4th of July holiday at the Staunton recreation park and includes carnival rides and games, bingo, live bands, a grand raffle, and lots of great foods and beverages. A large parade and fireworks show is conducted the last night of the celebration. · Annual SFPD Golf Tournament - Each fall, the SFPD volunteers host a 3-man Scramble Golf Tournament at the Staunton Country Club. Over $1000 dollars in cash prizes is awarded. The proceeds from the annual tournament are earmarked to purchase specialty equipment needed by the department.
